Sunday School for Grown Ups

Join us at 10:30 a.m. every Sunday morning for a deeper dive. Wicked Smaaht is our "Sunday school" for adults--a time to learn (and to ask, and to discuss) the big topics that inform our faith lives. If you've ever wondered why bad things happen to good people, why the Old Testament reads so differently than the New Testament, what Christ was trying to do here on earth, and what he's still trying to do in your own life, this is the class for you!

It's a crash course on the most important biblical topics that will leave you feeling wicked smart!!!

FAQ

The world has a problem.

The big problem, according to God, is that we are naturally separated from him (Ephesians 2:3).  Our September Sunday school class, Wicked Smaaht, is trying to answer two questions: "why" and "what can we do to fix that"??  "You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free," Jesus says.  Paul responds, "and so this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight" (Philippians 1:9).  One of the essential parts of growing spiritually is in fact growing out of the lies we have believed and into a new awareness and understanding (a "new life")!   We "fail" when we "do not know" (Matthew 22:29).  But, "we are confident of better things in your case--things that accompany salvation" (Hebrews 6:9), because "he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion" (Philippians 1:6)!

Come Sundays at 10:30am to rediscover how the gospel sets us free!

Who is it for?

Anyone who is interested in digging a bit more into Scripture. From longtime NECers to those new to church, we will deliver lessons that will intrigue, inspire, and inform you.

Is it every Sunday?

Yes, with an exception. Every few months, Wicked Smaaht will be replaced by something we call “Theology Lab.” This is a much deeper dive into important, somewhat, controversial hot topics. This is not a partisan forum, but a space for careful reflection, honest discussion, and deeper theological grounding. Come curious. Come thoughtful. Come ready to engage. The next round is March 1, 8 & 15. To attend this, you must be an NEC member, have attended Journey 101 and be able to attend all three sessions. Questions? Email Cliff at cliff@nechapel.org.

How long will it be?

Expect each teacher to lead for about 45 minutes, with plenty of time for discussion.

Will there be time for Q&A?

Yes! Each teacher will build in time for Q&A, so come curious!

Will there be childcare?

Yes, Kids Zone will serve as a space for kids ages 2 and up to hang out while you learn. We just ask that you pre-register so our volunteers are ready!

Will there be homework?

Our teachers may give you a homework assignment but participation is always optional!

Will the 9 a.m. service be the usual service?

Yes, there will always be amazing music and preaching at the 9:00 hour. Please join us!
